How to create a noticeboard
Create, customise and manage your own noticeboard
There are many social media platforms to choose from today, but only n0tice provides an open, customisable and free space for community groups to collaborate on local information.

In this example, we will create a noticeboard about East Finchley. You will learn how to create your open space, make it look and feel the way you want, and how to manage activity that happens on your noticeboard including moderation and reposting content from other noticeboards.
STEP 1: CHOOSE A NAME
First you must identify a name for your noticeboard. This is a fixed subdomain on n0tice.com that you can then share publicly.
- Go to n0tice.com and login or register.
- Click the ‘Create a noticeboard’ link: http://n0tice.com/new-noticeboard
- Choose a name that is available. The form will tell you when you’ve found a name that does not yet exist.

STEP 2: GIVE IT YOUR OWN LOOK AND FEEL
You can control much of the user experience and make your noticeboard feel like part of your brand today.
- Modify the Basic Information. Give it a name and describe what this noticeboard is for. The about information will appear in a box on the home page of your noticeboard, and the description information will be on your ‘About’ page.
- Click the Theme tab. Here you can upload a logo and a background image. There are detailed specs on the page to help you through the uploading process. You can even edit your image after uploading it.
That was easy, eh? Now, everyone will see your new noticeboard looking just the way you wanted. But wait, there’s more…
STEP 3: CURATE AND MODERATE
You don’t have to operate your noticeboard alone. While everyone can post directly to your noticeboard, you can identify other people on n0tice that will help you remove unwanted posts and repost things from other noticeboards to appear on your noticeboard.
- Click the ‘Admins’ tab. Type in the username of someone to whom you want to grant admin priveleges. Their name will appear. Click on it. Done. You can also remove admins just as easily.
- Click the ‘Moderation’ tab. Here you will see any posts that have been flagged on your noticeboard. The issue type and user-submitted text will appear. And you will have some options for tracking what’s been done with this post.
- As an admin of a noticeboard, you will see a link on every post to ‘Delete’. You can remove any post from your noticeboard, but n0tice.com will still keep that post live elsewhere on the platform, such as the user’s profile page. The n0tice staff can remove a post completely and permanently from the entire network, if necessary.
- Repost from other noticeboards. When you see a post on another noticeboard that you want to add on your noticeboard, simply click the ‘Repost’ button. A window will appear with the noticeboards for which you have admin priveleges. Select the repost destination. Click ‘Repost’. Done. You will then see the reposted item on your noticeboard.
STEP 4: ANALYSE AND PROMOTE
You will obviously want to know what’s happening on your noticeboard behind the scenes. We’ve added Google Analytics to your noticeboard so you can track the normal kinds of activities you would expect to see, but we have also added some nice social features that will help you build traction for your noticeboard.
- Click the ‘Analytics’ tab. You will recognise the metrics here, including visits, page views, bounce rate, time on site from the past day, week and month.
- Click the options below the metrics, such as ‘Top Content’, ‘Traffic Sources’, ‘Country’, ‘Twitter’, etc. You should see everything you need to know in order to understand what’s happening on your noticeboard. You can use this data to identify areas that need more attention and promotion.
THAT’S ALL. WHY DON’T YOU MAKE ANOTHER?
Being an open space we encourage you to make noticeboards as and when you need them. There are many use cases for a noticeboard, some are long term destinations and some are short term focused activities.
Here are some ideas to get you thinking of other ways to use noticeboards:
- Focus on a specific local news event, like a campaign to stop a chain store from invading a neighborhood.
- Create a playful space for identifying things in the area that might otherwise go un-n0ticed, like beautiful grafitti or a new fashion seen in the streets.
- Run a photo contest on a noticeboard and show the most popular images taken on a map on your contest web site.
